The easiest way to do this is over the stove in a saucepan. Step 2 Add 3/4 cup of sugar to the water and stir well so that the sugar completely dissolves in the water. Step 3 Pour the sugar water solution into the glass jar. Make sure that an adult is doing this as the water and the pan will be very hot. Step 4 Hang a piece of string onto a pencil and place the pencil on top of the jar. The string should hang down into the sugar water but not touch the bottom of the jar.
