How Do You Make Country Braided Rugs?
Country-style braided rugs make a homey, utilitarian accent and are also a great way to recycle. Old cotton sheets or quilting scraps make perfect subjects for being turned into a braided rag rug. You can match your rug’s colors to suit almost any decor, and even braid patterns into it by alternating colors along its length. When you make a rug yourself instead of buying it, it also becomes an interesting point of conversation in your home. Cut even strips of fabric that are between 2 and 3 inches wide. Thick fabrics, like wool, can be cut a little thinner. Cutting straight edges in this step is important; it’ll make the rest of the process much easier. Fold the long edges of each strip of fabric in toward the center, then fold the entire strip in half the long way. This hides the raw edges of the fabric inside the strip.
