You can make a clutch purse in less than 30 minutes out of things you may already have lying around the house. Add a pretty vintage brooch to dress it up and you are ready for an evening out. Placemats come in a variety of pretty fabrics and styles. Choose one to coordinate with your outfit. Most quilted placemats are suitable for making into a clutch evening bag. Lay the placemat right side up on a table. Orient the placemat lengthwise running from top to bottom. Fold the placemat into thirds, right sides inward, like a letter. Bring the bottom third up to form the pouch of the clutch purse. Fold the top third down over that to form the flap. The flap’s lower edge should be even with the bottom fold, and all sections should be of equal size. Open the flap portion back up. Secure the sides of the evening bag pouch, right sides together, with straight pins on each side. Make sure the edges are even before pinning.
