How Do You Make Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream?
In the 1980s, a number of “designer” ice creams appeared on the scene. Packed in pints, rather than half-gallons, these pricey new brands were chock full of crunchy, exotic nuts and ribbons of caramel and fudge. In 1986, Ben & Jerry’s was the first to offer ice cream with chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough mixed in. It remains a sensation to this day. Place the cookie dough in the freezer for 30 minutes. Take one roll of cookie dough from the freezer and remove it from the plastic tube. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into pieces approximately 1/2 inch square. Put the pieces in a bowl and return to the freezer. Do the same with the second roll of cookie dough. Add the pieces to the bowl. Take a half-gallon of premium vanilla ice cream from the freezer and let it stand on the counter for 10 minutes. Empty the ice cream in the bowl of a stand mixer.
