How Do You Make Chicken Stock Cubes?
You roasted a great chicken and they ate the whole thing! Don’t throw it out, throw it in a pot and make chicken stock out of it. Place the chicken in a pot of water to cover. If you wish you can add some soup vegetables like an onion, carrot and celery, but it isn’t necessary. Don’t add salt, so you can use this in all sorts of recipes. Bring to a boil, and then reduce the heat and simmer for an hour or more, depending on the size of the bird. When the chicken stock is nice and tasty, take it from the heat and let it cool. Strain the stock and ladle it carefully into the ice cube trays. Freeze the stock cubes and then store them in the freezer in a zip lock bag. You now have individually frozen stock cubes which you can use as a base for soup. You can also add them when you cook rice, and when you want to add flavor to sauces and stews.
