Start boiling a large pot of water, with plenty of salt in it. Let this get ready while working through the next steps. When the water is boiling, add your pasta and cook about 10 minutes. (Check the package for specific times.) Heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat until the butter is melted. Chop the bacon into 1/4″ pieces and add it to the hot oil. Cook about four minutes, until done but not-quite-crispy. Mince the garlic and add it to the bacon, along with the pepper.
