How Do You Make Buttermilk Biscuits From Scratch?

Have you ever wanted to make buttermilk biscuits at home? Here you will learn a very easy way to do it so that they come out light, fluffy and very flavorful. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Make sure that you adjust the temperature if your oven happens to run hot or cold (like mine does). In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the butter or shortening until the mixture looks like little peas and has the consistency of cornmeal. For tips on how to “cut in” something, please see the link below. Dig a “hole” in the center of the dry ingredients and add all of the buttermilk. Mix with your mixer on low just until the dough is moist and pulls away from the side of your bowl. Do NOT over mix this dough. Lightly flour your surface (counter, cutting board, etc) and place the dough on it. Knead it somewhere between 8 and 15 times until it becomes uniform and pliable. Be careful not to over knead as it will make your biscuits hard and/or tough. R
