How Do You Make Building Toys From Styrofoam Trays?

0

Here’s an easy building toy to make… and the fact that you’re recycling makes it even sweeter! Try this with your kids. They’ll have twice the fun… once making the building blocks and then playing with them when they are finished. • Wash the styrofoam trays carefully with an antibacterial soap. • Allow the trays to dry thoroughly. • Determine the shape(s) you want your building block toys to be. Circles, Squares, Rectangles, etc all work well. Note: Keep the number of shapes to around 3-5 total. • Find templates for your shapes. Jar lids work well for circles, and small boxes or books work well for squares and rectangles. You can also create your own template from stiff cardboard if you like. • Trace the templates onto the styrofoam. • Cut the shapes out with scissors. • Cut half inch slits in the edges of your styrofoam shapes to serve as attachment points. (Shapes are attached to each other by sliding two slits onto each other) Play!
