How Do You Make Bubble Wands With String?
Soap bubbles are complex scientific systems, but are really easy to make in the backyard on a summer afternoon. Many stores carry a wide variety of bubble wands and bubble makers, but experimenting with things around the house can be far more rewarding and revealing. String is one such object, highly underused in store-made bubble equipment, but having a number of uses in bubble wands. Cut a loop of string about 24 inches long. Insert the string into a plastic drinking straw and tie the ends of the string together. Dip the wand into the bubble solution so that it creates a film that covers the loop of string. Blow gently on this film to make bubbles. Cut a 36- to 48-inch piece of string. Hot glue the end of the string to the end of your dowel. Wrap the string around the end before gluing it to provide extra hold. Loop a washer or key ring onto the string, letting it dangle down. Loop another ring or washer onto the dowel itself.
