How Do You Make Braided Rag Rugs?
Handmade braided rag rugs are an ideal accent in a Colonial or Country design scheme. An authentic braided rug can cost a small fortune, though. Making your own braided rugs is a great way to recycle old fabrics from t-shirts, jeans and other clothing. So green and so lovely! Choose appropriate fabrics. You can use any fabrics to make braided rag rugs, but keep in mind that braiding adds bulk to whatever fabric you choose. Lightweight t-shirt cotton, sweatshirt fleece and lightweight wool all are good choices, but don’t mix-and-match them. Pick clothes that are all about the same weight. Go shopping! You can shop in your closet or in your kids’ closets, but you may not get enough throwaway clothing that way. Skip the fabric store, though.
