All natural dyes made from vegetables are a wonderful alternative to store bought dyes. You will know exactly what’s in it and you can even mix your own colors just like you can commercial food coloring and dyes. It’s easy, all natural and cheap. Cut the cabbage in half. Put half away as you won’t be using this. Coarsely chop up half the head. Place the shredded cabbage into a medium-sized saucepan. Pour the water in. Turn the heat on medium high. When it begins to boil, turn it down to medium heat. Let it simmer. When the cabbage becomes tender and turns very dark green it’s done. Place a colander over a large pan and strain the cabbage, catching all the juice. The juice will be a beautiful blue.. This dye is great for Easter eggs, papier mache projects and all kinds of crafts. It works will with air drying play dough as well.
