How Do You Make Bird Suet From Beef Fat?
Wild birds appreciate a special treat during the freezing winter months, especially when natural food supplies are limited. Beef suet can be combined with peanut butter, cornmeal and birdseed to make bird cakes. Beef suet is a high-energy food and is easily digested by the birds. It should only be offered to the birds during the colder months, as it can get rancid when temperatures rise above freezing. If it softens, the suet can coat the under feathers of the birds, creating health problems. Trim all meat from the fat. To make beef suet you need to use white beef fat, with absolutely no meat attached. Meticulously trim off any meat from the fat. Cut the trimmed fat into small pieces. Place the fat in a heavy-bottomed pan and heat on the stove over medium-low heat. Stir the fat until it completely melts, then remove from the stove. Now you can mix it with other ingredients to make bird treats.
