How Do You Make Bird Feeders For Pre-K Students?
A bird feeder project is an ideal hands-on activity for the pre-kindergarten classroom. The project is usually combined with a learning activity that is centered on wild birds, their habitat and their eating habits. A nature walk can also be incorporated into the project, which will allow for each student to gather the pine cones necessary to complete the project. Each student can make several bird feeders; some to be displayed in the trees outside the classroom window and others to be hung in the trees around their home. Step 1 Give each student an aluminum pie tin, a plastic butter knife, scissors and yarn. The students will need to cut at least twelve inches of yarn for each of their pine cones. Step 2 Fill the bottom of each of aluminum pie tin with a layer of wild bird seed. Large bags of bird seed are available in hardware stores and even some grocery stores.
