Begin by working the polymer clay in the hands. Do this for several minutes. The friction, in addition to heat and oil from the hands, will make the clay soft, supple and easy to work with. Roll the clay, one color at a time, between the palms of the hands until it takes on the shape of a long, thin worm. Try to get the worm shape of the clay to take on a uniform diameter.
