What’s great about this hearty casserole dish is that it can be cut into squares, and holds together on a paper or plastic plate! The water bath is the secret! Delicious tasting ~ watch it disappear and your guests will be asking for the recipe! Scald milk. Pour over bread crumbs. Combine bread crumb mixture, butter, macaroni, cheese, fried onion rings, eggs, salt, pepper. Mix together. Place mixture from above into buttered 8 x 8 pan. (If using oblong, increase recipe.) Sprinkle top with Paprika. To cook: Put pan in water bath (broiler pan or large metal pan): 1/2 inch to 1 inch water. (This is important, as it is what sets the macaroni casserole as it bakes, enabling it to be cut into squares.) Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.
