Homemade Baked Apple Dumplings bring back the aroma of grandma’s homemade cooking. This recipe is fantastic tasting, and is perfect to make on those cold, snowy evenings. Serve warm from the oven, and yum, they are so good. Make your sauce first, by combining 1 cup of sugar, along with 1 cup of water, 1/8 tsp of cinnamon, and 1/8 tsp of nutmeg in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Once your ingredients begin to boil, add 2 tbsp of margarine, stir well, and then remove the saucepan from the heat. Now, start working on your dough for the Apple Dumplings. Use a 9 x 13 x 1 1/2 baking dish and grease lightly. Combine 2 cups of flour, 1 tsp of salt, and 2 tsp of baking powder in a bowl, and mix. Cut in 2/3 cup of shortening. Add 1/2 cup of milk to the flour, salt, baking powders and shortening mixture. Mix using a fork, until it’s just moistened. Roll your dough out, as if you were making a pizza crust. Nice and flat.
