How Do You Make Authentic Irish Soda Bread?
This is a family recipe given to me by my Aunt. It is a Authentic Irish Soda Bread recipe from Ireland. UPDATE: the amount of butter milk is too high. So you will either have to add a lot more flour or reduce the buttermilk. It is best to add the buttermilk a little at a time to avoid over wetting the dough. Before mixing your ingredients, preheat the oven to 350F/175C. Take a baking pan and butter and lightly flour it. In a large mixing bowl, mix the baking soda, flour, sugar, and baking powder. Add the softened butter into the mixture. Stir in the raisin and currents (if you choose to include them) In another bowl add your egg and milk, slightly beating it. Slowly add the egg and milk to your flour mixture by hand, stirring in a little at a time. Be careful that you do not over mix. Put the mixture onto a lightly floured board and knead it until you form a smooth dough. Then shape the dough into a round, high ball. Put the dough ball into the baking pan. Make a cross across the top.
