Casseroles are great classic dishes that everyone seems to like but they can also make great side dishes. Most people enjoy potatoes and cheese so why not combine the two? Here’s how to make an au gratin potato casserole. Get Ready to Cook Step 1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place a medium sized pot on the stove half-filled with water. Bring it to a boil. Wash and peel your potatoes. Then cut the potatoes into chunks about the size of a half dollar coin. Place the potato chunks in the boiling water and let them soften in it for about 8 minutes. Step 2 Slowly stir the flour and milk into a medium saucepan in which you have melted three tablespoons of butter. The sauce should have a fairly liquid consistency to it.
