In a tight economy, making and sewing children’s clothing can be a great way to cut down on costs. Children’s clothing is also a great way to start if you’re new to sewing. Many of the patterns are basic and quick to make. In just a few hours, you can make a boy’s pair of pants or a little girl’s dress from start to finish. Take your child’s measurements. Take a chest, waist and hip; arm-length; and neck-to-waist measurement using the measuring tape. Find a pattern. Children’s patterns can be hard to come by at times. Choose a good fabric. Often, printed cottons and knits make good choices for more feminine pieces.
