How Do You Make And Safely Use A Liquid Lye Solution?

How to Make and Safely Use a Liquid Lye Solution Thursday March 12, 2009 I once heard from a reader from Malaysia said that she can’t get lye without a “poision permit” – but CAN get a 50% lye/water solution – pre-made “liquid lye”. Can she use it for making soap? You bet! When I was making two or three batches of soap a day, I used to pre-make my lye-water. The benefits to having your lye made up ahead of time are the convenience of not having to wait for it to cool – and it’s one less thing to measure…BUT, you have to be even MORE careful with it because it looks just like water! It’s not any more or less dangerous than powdered lye. But your spouse is less likely to take a swig from a jar of white powder than s/he is to pour a nice cool glass of what looks like water. So if you choose to make up your lye solution ahead of time, be sure it’s clearly labeled and stored away properly. More about: ???–>
