Create an unusual conversation piece for your living room by making furniture out of paper. Discarded newspapers and magazines are readily available, often for free. By collecting one or two armloads of paper you will have the basic ingredient necessary to build a solid, round ottoman or table base. Roll your newspaper evenly and tight so that it forms a quarter-size-diameter cylinder. Tape it together with three pieces of transparent tape. Make a dozen or so cylinders before shaping your furniture. Gather five or six cylinders together into a circle shape. Make sure all of the cylinders are even in height. Drop your strapping loop over the gathered papers down to 3 inches off the floor. Pull the tensioner so that the strap becomes tight and cut the strap. Add a second strap 3 inches from the top of the gathered papers.
