This delightful, inexpensive craft project is the perfect repurposing of an umbrella that’s seen better days. Instead of tossing it in the trash, you can salvage the fabric and make this charming tote that is sure to have friends asking, “Where did you get that?” Separate the fabric from the spokes of an umbrella that’s no longer functioning. Expect to leave a small hole when the center piece of the frame is removed. Fold over 1 inch, wrong sides together, all around the perimeter of the umbrella fabric. Use straight pins to secure the hem while it’s sewn. Set the straight pins into the fabric perpendicular to the edge of the fabric with the points closest to the fold. Use matching or contrasting thread. Sew around the edge of the fabric. Leave a casing about 3/4 inch wide. Backstitch at the beginning and end of the stitching. Make a small slit in the top edge of the hem to thread the drawstring. Line up the edges of the fabric and find the spot directly opposite the slit, then make a
