Paper quilling is a great hobby because it is inexpensive and can be done practically anywhere. Avid quillers twirl papers using tools or just their fingers while traveling, watching television or waiting for appointments. With just a few paper strips, a quilling tool or a hat pin and sometimes a dab of glue, you can create quilled shapes quickly and easily to be used on cards, invitations and scrapbooks later. Turn the quilling tool until the paper winds around the tool. Coil only half the paper strip. Remove the quilling tool, letting the coil unwind slightly. Place the other end of the quilling strip into the slotted quilling tool. Twist the tool in the opposite direction so the coil is on top of the previously coiled section, instead of rolling towards it. The finished piece should look like the letter “S.
