The Orchid Lei is a unique a beautiful lei that is very common in the Hawaiian Islands. There are a variety of Orchids grown in the islands that are different shapes, sizes and colors. The most popular Orchid used for this lei is the purple and white Dendrobium Orchid. Learn how to make this lei in just a few easy steps. Slip one end of the thread through the eye of the lei needle. Pull the thread through until it is in the center of the thread. Match up the ends of the thread and tie them together. Hold the orchid with the thumb and index finger at the base of the flower. With the other hand, push the point of the lei needle through the bottom center of the flower. With that same hand, pull the needle and thread through the top center of the flower until the knot reaches the base of the flower. Continue adding flowers until there is only 3 inches of thread left. Remove the needle from the thread. Tie the two ends of the lei together and cut any excess thread.
