How Do You Make An Old-Fashioned Slingshot?
Making old-fashioned slingshots is not difficult but does require some thought and attention to detail. Slingshots made for target shooting or occasional fun are more enjoyable when they are designed to be as accurate as possible. Care must be exercised when selecting the material to make the slingshot so it will not break at a critical moment and the rubber band won’t slap your wrist when firing the slingshot. Locate a sturdy stick, at least an inch in diameter, with an even fork on the end and a shaft approximately six inches long. The long shaft is necessary to protect the wrist and back of the hand from being struck by the rubber band when the slingshot is fired. Test the stick for strength by twisting and pulling on the forks and the shaft. Do not try to break the stick; simply determine if it is strong enough to withstand the pressure of the rubber band being drawn and released. Use a knife to carve two small notches on both sides and at the top of each of the prongs of the fork.
