How Do You Make An Incubator From A Cardboard Box?
Fertilized eggs have to be kept warm for quite a while while the embryo inside develops. Most of us are too busy and too heavy to play mother hen and sit on the eggs the way nature intended. Instead, we can use incubators to keep the temperature at just the right level to hatch the chicks. Get a sturdy cardboard box with a removable top. It should have no holes in it, and the top should fit tightly. Cut a small viewing window in the side, about 1 inch wide and 2 inches from the bottom. Tape a small piece of transparent plastic or glass to it so that no air can seep in between the window and the covering. Tape a non-digital thermometer to the side of the box opposite the glass. It should be easily visible through the view window. Cut a hole in the side of the box big enough for a light socket, and about 4 inches away from the bottom. But the light socket into the side of the box and tape or glue it firmly in place. Screw in a 60-watt light bulb, and make sure it is not touching the side
