How Do You Make An Herbal Infused Oil?
Oils are a wonderful way to extract herbal properties. They can be used for massage, in baths, as a base for salves and creams and as body oils instead of lotion. Traditionally, herbalists use extra virgin olive oil as the oil of choice, however other oils such as sunflower can be used with good results. Become familiar with the different oil properties and decide which suits your use the best. Gather the herb. For oils, dried or slightly dried herbs work best. Fresh herbs can be used, but watch for mold formation. Place herb in jar and pour oil over. Use 1 part dried herb to 4 to 6 parts oil. For example, if you want to make 8 ounces of herbal oil, use just around 2 ounces of herb and fill to the top with oil. Cap tightly, label and date. Allow to steep in a warm (not sunny) place for 4 weeks. The mixture can be shaken periodically to encourage the herb to steep more fully. Strain the herb out using cheesecloth. Allow the herb to strain over a period of hours for the best results. If
