How Do You Make An Authentic Roman Toga?
Always made of wool, and coming in a variety of colors for various uses, the toga is more than a mere bed sheet. At the very least, it should be semicircular in outline, but a more genuine effect is obtained by having the outline of the toga in the shape below. • Measure the distance from your neck to the floor (with shoes on). This is “1 unit”. • Set up all the other measurements correctly based on the “1 unit” measured above: • The height of the basic rectangle is about 2.1 units. • The width of the basic rectangle is 2 + 3/7 units plus your waistline measurement. • The “top” corners are cut off at an angle and the “bottom” corners are rounded. • The flat part at the “top” is about 6/7 units and it is centered. • The flat part at the “bottom” is about 1 and 5/7 units and it is centered. • The straight parts remaining on each “side” are 1/2 unit each. • The fold is about 1 and 1/8 units from the bottom. Hem the edges by machine, or by hand for a more “authentic” look.
