How Do You Make An Acrostic Name Poem?
Writing acrostic name poetry is a fun activity for both children and adults. This type of poem does not require you to write interesting rhymes or use fancy metaphors. You simply write lines beginning with each letter of your first name. This activity is a great icebreaker at a party, as well as a fun and creative way to pass time on a rainy afternoon. Write your name vertically. Each letter of your name should be on a separate line. Write a word that starts with the letter you have written on each line. Use words that describe you such as “Lively” for the letter L. Expand each word into a sentence. Describe how you look or feel in each sentence. For example, “lively” could become “Lively curls orbit my head, curling around my ears,” or “Lively, animated thoughts gush from my pen.” If you are writing acrostic name poems as an icebreaker activity, read your poem aloud to the group and ask each member of the group to share his or her poem.
