If you want to recreate the simple yet sexy look of a choker à la Nicole Kidman’s in “Moulin Rouge,” you can do so by making a velvet choker yourself. This choker is deceptively easy to make and you’ll have a ready-to-wear necklace in no time at all. Measure the width of your neck using a measuring tape. Add two inches to the width of your neck; this is the length you will need to cut the ribbon to make your necklace. Adding two inches is necessary to make sure you have some breathing room in the necklace when you’re wearing it. Cut the ribbon to size. Also cut a square about ½ or ¾ inch in length of the Velcro.
