How Do You Make A Turtle Shell Costume?
The best way to make a turtle shell at home is with a simple cardboard box and a paper mache.
- Cut the cardboard box into two large circles that are larger than your back. Curve one of the circles and attach it to the flat one giving the "shell" a 3D appearance.
- Take your paper mache mixture and apply a few coats of paper mache to the shell of your turtle shell. Make sure to cover all surfaces of the turtle shell, even the area where the two cardboard circles do not meet up. You want to make it look as life-like and 3D as possible.
- Let your turtle shell dry completely.
- Apply some paint in a turtle shell pattern on the turtle shell to match your costume. Use green, brown, and yellow paint.
- To be able to wear the turtle shell, make sure to add some ribbons or robe to make the shell like a backpack. This way you can remove the shell if you get uncomfortable.
