How Do You Make A Turning/Threading Lathe Tool Bit?
Have you ever had the need for a lathe cutting tool but didn’t have the money or didn’t know how to make one? If so I have ten easy steps for making a high speed tool bit that can turn, face, and make 60 degree angles threads for most standard types of metals. • You need a piece of 3/8’’ x 3/8″ high speed steel approx 3″ long and a pedestal grinder. • Hold the piece in your hand with the front facing of the grinding wheel, then point the tool left at 30’, then angle the back end down 10’, and start grinding till the new face touches both long sides of the work piece. • Hold the piece so that the top is facing the grinder and the front is facing left. Rotate the piece towards you 8’ and grind a small length of the work piece (approx 3/8″) until the new face touches the top edge. This will form the cutting edge. • Hold the piece so that left side is facing the grinder with the front is facing right. Rotate the piece towards you 10’ and grind until the face touches the same edge as the pr
