One of the joys of gardening is making your own compost and nurturing your garden. While a composter sits off to the side most of the time, it is one of the garden tasks that needs almost daily attention. Composting has been around for quite some time and modern ideas and strategies give the opportunity for quicker turnaround and easier turning. With a turning compost bin, the shovel work is taken out of the rotation process, relieving your back and significantly cutting the time to do the task. Cut an opening in the center of the barrel approximately 16 inches square. Using a screwdriver and hammer, create a hinge by punching a hole in two adjacent corners of the square that was cut out and in the barrel. Lace through your 12-inch piece of leather cording and secure the hinge with a knot.
