Tornados are one of the most deadly forces of nature that strike the United States on a regular basis. At top speeds, their funnels can rotate at over 200 mph. Storm chasers and weather forecasters spend millions of dollars and many hours trying to predict and track these destructive gusts. Making a miniature version of these for junior’s next science fair is easy and can be done with most tools around the house. Step 1 Fill one of the empty bottles up halfway with water. Carefully squeeze in two or three drops of food coloring. Lighter colors are better. Using the lamp oil instead will allow you to see the tornado better. Step 2 Drill holes in each of the top of the bottle caps. Try to align the holes up with each other because this is where the water is going to go through.
