How Do You Make A Tied Quilt?
The quickest way to finish a quilt is to tie it. You tie squared or reef knots as you go with embroidery floss or thick colored yarn to complement or contrast the quilt’s pattern. You’ll also hear this quilt style called a “comforter.” Layer backing, batting and quilt top. Baste them together to keep them in place. Determine tie placement. You can scatter the ties around the shapes, center of the blocks, or at the intersections of the pieces. Thread a large-eyed needle with the floss, thread or yarn. You need several inches of the thread on the needle. Insert the needle through all the quilt layers. When you bring it back to the top, cut it at about 2 inches. Tie the tails in a squared or reef knot. These knots secure the batting in place and cause the fabric to look like it blossoms. Trim tails to desired length, which is usually about 1/2 inch. After you tie the whole quilt, finish the edging.
