A zipper makes a throw pillow cover easy to change, in case you need to take it off and wash it or trade it for a different style. Although the zipper won’t show very much, it’s best to use a zipper color that matches or complements the fabric color. For throw pillows, an inexpensive polyester zipper, rather than a heavy duty zipper with metal teeth, should work fine. You can use plain cotton or a cotton print to make the throw pillow, or use home decor fabric for a sturdier or more elegant pillow. Fold the fabric in half with the right sides together. Cut two fabric squares, each 17 1/2 by 17 1/2 inches. Place the squares of fabric right sides together and pin them together along one side. Set the sewing machine to the longest stitch length. Baste the squares together along the pinned side using 5/8-inch seam allowance. Press the seam allowance open. Place the zipper face down on the seam allowance. Pin the zipper tape to the seam allowance only, without pinning the zipper to the rest
