Tutoring can be a tough business and it is important to make students aware of your requirements up front. One of the most effective ways I have found to do this is to create a student tutor contract that is specific to your academic expectations. This may help keep things on track and be a consistent reminder to the student to make the most of each session. Decide what your priorities are. My current contract for a tutee includes sections on making and keeping appointments, showing up on time for appointments, and attempting assignments before meetings. Get specific about these priorities and write out a short description. For example the section might look as follows: TRY YOUR ASSINGMENTS BEFORE MEETING WITH YOUR TUTOR: Come prepared!
