Get or find a floppy disk with a metal slide. The floppy disks with the plastic slides do not work for this project. The metal slide is the piece at the bottom of the disk that moves back and forth. Remove the slide from the outside of the floppy disk and pull the disk itself apart. Take out the round data disk. This looks much like a CD. Take the metal piece out of the middle of the data disk. Cut the metal strips on the slide at the edge that touches the wider piece of the slide. These are two strips that connect the top, thinner piece of metal to the other side to create a small box.
