A Sonora cocktail is a simple drink comprised of apple brandy, rum, freshly squeezed lemon juice and apricot brandy. The Sonora cocktail was invented by Harry Craddock of The Savoy Hotel and was first published in his book entitled “The Savoy Cocktail Book” in 1930. While the drink may not be well known to working bartenders today, this is still a great cocktail that deserves more attention that it gets, and it should be a real treat to both brandy and rum fans. This recipe makes on Sonora cocktail. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice. Add the apple brandy, rum, freshly squeezed lemon juice and apricot brandy. Cover the cocktails shaker with the palm of your hand or the supplied top and shake gently for 15 to 20 seconds. Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish the glass with a twisted lemon peel and serve right away.
