How Do You Make A Sock Puppet?
Making a sock puppet is really quite fun. If you make several of them, you can hold a puppet show. Just be sure to make them unique and individual so that they each have special characters. They don’t have to be human – animals and aliens are great possibilities too! • Find an old sock. It can be any color you like, and it should be long enough for you to stick your arm in. it should go almost to your elbow. • Glue two googly eyes to the bottom of the sock, where your toes would be. • Once the glue is dry, stick your hand in with the top of your hand where the bottom of your foot would be, and make your hand in a shape of a mouth. Your arm should look like a snake. Decorate your sock puppet with fabric paint and/or a felt tongue cut with a “v” at the end like a snake’s tongue.
If the mysterious “Sock Eater” has left you a pile of single socks, then let everyone make puppets one day. Puppets are a good way for children to talk about their world to adults without feeling pressure or embarrassment. Save a single clean sock. The sock needs to be large enough to fit loosely over a child’s hand. Gather craft supplies such as construction paper, permanent marker, wiggly eyes, felt, yarn, pipe cleaners, craft glue, cotton balls or batting. Place hand in sock with thumb and fingers working like a mouth. Mark lightly with a marker – areas for mouth, eyes, nose, and ears. Cut ears and mouth from felt and glue in marked areas with fabric glue or craft glue. Glue wiggly eyes in place. However, make eyes with a black permanent marker if puppet is going to be using by small children. Use yarn cut into small strings and glued to sock for hair or horse’s mane. Make antlers, horns, or antennas from pipe cleaners. Use an adult-sized clean sock. Gather craft supplies: Styrofoam
