Many people have seen the beautifully decorated pysanky, Ukrainian Easter Eggs, and wondered how to make them. These are easy to follow directions to make a basic, traditional pysanky design. This simple flower style design can be elaborated on to create very fancy designs once you have more skill. Select an egg. It should have a relatively thick shell and be as free from bumps and blemishes as possible. Before you do anything else, you need to mix up your dyes. These are special dyes, a type of dye called aniline, and can be purchased online. Mix them according to the individual package directions as some colors will require vinegar and others will not.
