Creating a silk topiary is a simple and very rewarding project that will last for years. After you have selected and gathered together your supplies, you should be able to finish your project in less than an hour. For a natural look, cut a twig whose diameter is on a scale in keeping with the size of your desired finished product. Remove smaller side twigs and branchlets by cutting very close to the main twig. No further preparation of your topiary “trunk” will be necessary. If you prefer to use a dowel rod, you will need to either paint the rod or wrap it with ribbon to cover the bare wood. If you choose to wrap with ribbon, begin by hot gluing one end of the ribbon–at a diagonal–to one end of the dowel rod. When dry, wrap the ribbon around the rod, being careful to leave no bare spaces. Push one end of the stick or dowel rod into the foam ball or Oasis block you have chosen for your topiary.
