How Do You Make A Short Movie?
• Decide upon the theme, action and story of your short piece to be filmed. • Prepare the video camera or camcorder. Be confident with using it; if not, take time to read the instruction manuals. • Ask family and/or friends to help you film the parts. Let them choose the parts that appeal most to them. Either that, or be especially persuasive. Have dry-run throughs (rehearsals) so that everyone knows what they are expected to do. If ad libbing is allowed, encourage it. • Film the movie. Film extra takes if you’re not sure whether or not a scene has worked. • Edit the movie. Use the appropriate editing software available to you. When a movie is short, remember that less means more. Cut anything that doesn’t add to the value of the overall storyline and film quality. Add effects, music, etc., as required. • Burn to a DVD. Hold a showing for family and friends.
