Preheat the oven to 350*F. Grease and flour two 9 inch round cake pans and set aside. In a large mixing bowl beat cake mix, water, sour cream, oil, food coloring, eggs, and vanilla with an electric mixer on medium speed 3 minutes. Divide the batter and place in the prepared pans. Bake for 28 to 30 minutes or until the cakes are done. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes on wire racks. Remove from the pans and cool completely on wire racks before frosting. Frost the sides and the tops of cake
