There are very few accessories that set off a suit better than a handmade pocket square. Whether matching a tie or accenting on its own, a pocket square is a splash of color and personality in an otherwise staid garment. Handmade pocket squares can be very pricey, but you can create a collection of your own if you have even moderate hand-sewing skills, for a much smaller cost. Step 1 Lay out your 100 percent silk fabric on a table, glossy side up. Measure a square 17 inches on a side. Cut out this square very carefully, making sure that you are cutting as close to the straight of the grain as possible. Step 2 Thread the needle with silk thread that matches the pocket square fabric. Tie the end off, using a single thread rather than doubling it. Step 3 Create a roll beginning in one corner of the silk and working toward the center. You will almost make the same motions as if you were creating a regular folded hem, but instead of folding over the fabric you will simply roll it up. Step 4
