If you are outside and suddenly receive a sting, you can simply chew a few fresh leaves and apply them directly to the bite area. That is a quick fix. If you or someone else comes home with a bothersome bite, make a poultice as follows. Put about 3/4 of a cup of dried plantain in a small pot. Pour about 1 cup of boiling water over the dried plantain. Cover and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to steep for 15 minutes. Spoon some of the resultant plantain mush into the center of your cotton toweling. The pad should be soaking but not dripping.
