Pastel stars are tiny stars made out of paper. The paper is folded a special way to make a three-dimensional “puffy” star. These stars aren’t necessarily pastel colors. They can be made out of shiny paper, glow-in-the-dark paper or patterned paper. The name is pronounced “PAS-tl,” rather than “pas-TELL.” Gently tie a knot near the end of a paper strip. Don’t pull it tight; leave it loose and flatten it firmly so it forms the shape of a pentagram. Fold over the shorter excess sticking out of the pentagram and slide it under one of the pentagram’s flaps. Begin folding the long excess around the pentagram. Simply fold it over in the direction it wants to go; it should naturally wrap so that the pentagram gets bigger. Make sure to wrap the paper tightly; if it’s too loose, it won’t stay together.
