How Do You Make A Motte And Bailey Castle?
• Put the plastic bowl (upturned) on a covered surface, or on the wooden board/paper plate/old tray or cardboard. Cover it with cling film. • Make the glue with flour and water or use the wallpaper adhesive. • Tear some of the newspapers into short strips, and then one at a time, dip each into the “glue” and lay it onto the cling film-covered bowl. Keep doing this until the whole bowl (except the inside) has a layer of newspaper strips and glue covering it. Leave it to dry. • Repeat step 3 (and step 2 if you need to) until the bowl has about 6 or 7 layers. • Do one last layer, but instead of using newspaper, use strips of the plain paper (computer/printer paper). Draw out your plan of where the motte will go on the wooden board (or whatever you have used), as well if you are having a moat, where the bailey will go, how wide the ditch will be, etc. Draw a circle where the motte will go on the board. • Cut up a lot of newspapers into more strips and put them all into a big mixing bowl. •
