How Do You Make A Mosaic Tile Floor?
Applying mosaic tile flooring is a messy, tedious job, but the result may add valuable design accents to your home or even increase its value. Make sure that you’ve planned out your entire mosaic design before you start. Begin at the far corner of the floor and work one small section at a time so that you don’t mosaic yourself into a corner or have to cross over any sections of your work before the mortar has set. Prepare the floor to be tiled over by cleaning it, scraping away any old adhesive or paint, and letting it dry thoroughly. Press a dollop of thinset mortar onto the surface to be tiled. Holding the smooth edge of the trowel at about a 30-degree angle to the surface, use the trowel to spread the mortar evenly in long, smooth strokes. Continue spreading and smoothing the mortar until it’s about as deep as your tiles are thick if you’re using 1-inch or smaller tiles, or half as deep as the tiles are thick if you’re using larger tiles for your mosaic.
