The word igloo is the Inuktitut word for house, but is used to refer to a structure made of snow. The traditional northern Inuit igloo is used as a temporary home during winter hunting. Constructed exclusively from snow cut and shaped into a dome structure, this dwelling is strong enough to withstand the extreme weather in the far north. A model should show the unique design of the igloo. Lay the soup bowl face down on the Styrofoam block towards the left end of the block. Trace around the outside of the bowl with the pencil. Remove the bowl. Cut the paper towel tube in half along the horizontal side to create two arches. Cut one of the arches to a length of three inches. Lay the three-inch arch on the Styrofoam with one end extending into the circle previously drawn and the other end pointed to the right side of the Styrofoam block. Trace along each side of the arch.
